“This observation strongly suggests the presence of AF-specific factors that affect cardioembolic stroke severity consistent with the currently developed model that posits AF as a marker of an underlying cardiovasculopathy that contributes to stroke risk in parallel to, but independent of, AF-related thromboembolism.”
